Green tea prevent prostate cancer!!

A new study has revealed that risk of prostate cancer can be reduced by consuming green tea. A research team led by Nagi B. Kumar of the Moffitt Cancer Center analyzed nearly 100 men for the study.
The team wanted to find out whether green tea catechins could suppress prostate cancer development in men who had high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) or atypical small acinar proliferation (ASAP).
The team used green tea capsules that contained a mixture of catechins. It mainly contained Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which is most abundant and potent catechin responsible for these cancer prevention effects. It is taken at a dose of 200 mgs twice a day.
The researchers divided the participants into two groups and gave capsules predominantly containing EGCG to one group and placebo to another.
After comparing the two groups, the team found that an active component , ‘catechins’ found in decaffeinated green tea prevented prostate cancer development in men who have premalignant lesions.
The team compared Polyphenon E in 49 men to the group consisting of 48 men with placebo tablets over a 1-year treatment period. They observed a lower combined rate of ASAP and prostate cancer development with Polyophenon E.
Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer in men. It is diagnosed in an estimated 80% of men who reach age 80.
Green tea has long been studied for its health benefits. Two research papers explained how green tea may help reduce the risk of developing some cancers.
Twenty percent of green tea is consumed in Asian countries where prostate cancer death rates are among the lowest in the world.
It has been also found that risk of prostate cancer increased among Asian men who abandon their original dietary habits upon migrating to the US.
